Marble quarries are not merely extraction sites, but places where material, territory, and expertise intertwine – giving rise to the story of a land that, in the case of Marmi Minucciano, becomes a family history. For Marmi Minucciano, the quarries represent the origin of everything: the point from which a direct relationship with matter begins, and a vision that extends throughout the entire supply chain.

The family’s connection to the marble world began in Carrara, in the Colonnata marble basin, in the mid-20th century, thanks to Corinno Cattani. From this origin, an entrepreneurial journey took shape, developing over time through the opening of new quarries and the constant evolution of the business – always keeping stone at its core.

A deep bond with the Apuan territory

Working in the Apuan Alps means engaging with a complex landscape, where the mountain is an integral part of productive culture. Here, marble is not merely a natural resource; it is the element that has shaped the landscape, architecture, and identity of the place.

For Marmi Minucciano, operating in this context means knowing the mountain, interpreting its geological features, and respecting its delicate balance. A body of knowledge built over time guides every operational choice and allows the material to be enhanced from its very origin.

The marble quarries: three sites, direct control over the material

Marmi Minucciano directly manages three marble quarries, located between the Colonnata–Carrara marble basin and the Acqua Bianca–Minucciano basin. Each extraction area has specific characteristics reflected in the material itself: different surfaces, veining, and tones, already recognisable in the quarry and decisive for design choices.

In the Colonnata–Carrara marble basin are two extraction sites. The first is Tacca 133 Quarry, with a vast extraction area of 225,000 sqm, the birthplace of Bianco Cattani® – a marble appreciated for its uniformity and surface quality, capable of ensuring visual continuity and precision. From the same basin also come Nero Cattani® and Cattani Marine®, unique materials with a more intense presence, characterised by deep substance and a strong graphic signature that give strength and identity to surfaces.

Alongside this, Seccagna 128 Quarry, with an extraction face of 125,000 sqm, expands the availability of Bianco Cattani®, here quarried in its purest expression.
In the Acqua Bianca–Minucciano marble basin lies Zebrino 2–3 Quarry, an extensive extraction area of 180,000 sqm. From this site come materials such as Calacatta Minucciano®, Cipollino Verde Minucciano®, Cipollino Viola Minucciano®, and Zebrino 23® – marbles crossed by pronounced veining and chromatic variations that generate dynamic surfaces, particularly suited to projects where marble plays an expressive role.

From quarry to supply chain: continuity and control of the material

Direct management of the quarries allows Marmi Minucciano to intervene on the material from its earliest stages, selecting marble blocks based on their characteristics and planning processing in alignment with the final project. The quarry thus becomes the place where marble, even before transformation, is read and interpreted.

This approach enables the company to follow the material throughout its entire journey: from extraction to processing, from slab selection to the development of bespoke interventions. Continuity between phases and direct control over each step ensure qualitative coherence and reliability, maintaining a constant dialogue between material and project.

Quarry work therefore has a profound impact on the final result. The knowledge of mountain and marble, built over time, allows their intrinsic qualities to be preserved while guiding the material along the entire supply chain. It is from this care – rooted in a daily relationship with the territory – that marbles take shape, capable of maintaining over time the connection between origin, craftsmanship, and application.
